How To Clean Rolling Bearings?

The steps for cleaning the rolling bearings are as follows:

1. Preparations

·Record the appearance of the bearings, confirm the remaining amount of lubricant, and take samples for subsequent inspection.

2. Rough washing

·Use cleaning agents such as gasoline or kerosene, and use a brush or cloth to remove the old oil and dirt on the surface of the bearing.

·When cleaning, avoid rotating the bearings to prevent impurities from entering the raceways.

3. Fine washing

·Immerse the bearing in clean gasoline or kerosene, rotate it slowly, and carefully clean the rolling elements and raceways.

·Note that the temperature of the cleaning agent should not be too high, and avoid using chemical substances that may cause damage to the bearings.

4. Drying

·Use a clean cloth to dry the bearing and avoid using materials such as cotton yarn that may leave fibers.

·Ensure that the bearings are completely dry to prevent rust.

5. Check

·Check whether the raceways, rolling elements and cages of the bearings are damaged or worn.

·Test the flexibility of the bearing by hand feel or simple rotation.

6. Lubrication

·Select the appropriate grease based on the type of bearing and working conditions.

·The amount of grease filled should be moderate, generally 1/2 to 1/3 of the internal space of the bearing.

7. Storage

·Store the cleaned and lubricated bearings properly to avoid contamination and rust.

During the cleaning process, safety should be noted to avoid contact of the cleaning agent with the skin or inhalation of harmful gases. For special types of bearings, such as sealed bearings or those with dust covers, cleaning may not be necessary. For specific details, please refer to the manufacturer's recommendations.
